100 reasons to be happy.

sometimes we need a reminder of why we should be happy. What if we had something like a Dewey Decimal System cataloguing every reason to smile. What if every time we felt a certain kind of sad, we could refer to the corresponding card that would be the cure for that particular brand of melancholia. A vague unsettled feeling about one’s life might be relieved by card #33: a picture of your mother’s face. Or maybe that’s just me, maybe you need card #36: the unidentifiable feeling that everything makes sense somehow, that there is a loving God or at least a warm sun, that maybe things will be alright. This catalogue system might be some difficult science, but at least we can start somewhere. Or maybe it will be enough to look at the cards and know that at those moments, those feelings were just as real as any other feelings claim to be. I made a little case for my own 100 reasons to be happy, and I carry them in my bag next to my books for work and my packs of gum. After a dinner alone, or a dinner feeling alone with people, I like to flip through and remind myself.

there's more. We have a card catalog traveling around to different public places and you can add your reason to be happy to it. Or you can read everybody else's reasons. See it here: www.100reasonstobehappy.com
